In this installment of the Megaphone Youth Register’s Student Spotlight Series, we interview Jia, the founder of Business for Youth, a youth-led organization dedicated to introducing business ideas and skills to youth around the world.
Q1. Please introduce yourself and the mission of Business for Youth.
My name is Jia, and the mission of Business for Youth is to introduce business skills to students all over the world. Business education is extremely important, yet many students are unfamiliar with it. Our goal is to share business education with all students, and we are currently doing so through our AI x Business online youth program!
Q2. What inspired you to get involved with Business for Youth, and why do you think teaching business concepts to young people is important?
Teaching business concepts to people is important, as business skills are used in everyday life. This includes buying a drink at a coffee shop or paying rent for an apartment—they all involve business and the transaction of money!
Q3. Why do you think financial literacy and entrepreneurship education are often missing from traditional school curricula?
I’m not sure, as business is extremely important. I think it’s because many teachers and schools overlook the importance of business in the real world.
Q4. What role do you think social media can play in improving business literacy among young people?
Social media, through short-form videos such as Reels and TikToks, can exponentially raise awareness of the importance of business education.
Q5. What are the organization’s biggest goals for this year, and how can students help in your mission?
Currently, we are finalizing our AI x Business online youth program. Students can help us by joining the program and improving their business literacy skills! Our instructors are taught by instructors from Harvard, Stanford, UPenn, Johns Hopkins, USC, and beyond, so it is a great opportunity for any student (especially business or CS majors)!
Thank you so much to Jia for joining us in this interview! Please check out their work here: linktr.ee/businessforyouth_
