University of Michigan Museum of Art

Author: G. Li

I was fortunate enough to visit the University of Michigan Museum of Art (UMMA) this summer as a part of a summer program I attended. The exhibits reflect an inextricable linkage between art and history, and I particularly appreciated their exhibit, “Unsettling Histories: Legacies of Slavery and Colonialism”, which examines the legacy of slavery and colonization, telling a more complex and more complete story of this nation, unafraid of uncomfortable history. I was also excited to recognize certain paintings and techniques, including the work of Henri Fantin-Latour, and 水墨画, or ink wash painting. Taking in the vast expanse of cultures, time periods, and mediums, I wanted to share my experience with others. So please enjoy some pictures I captured, displayed below!
